Daniel J. Heywood served as the Chair of the Illinois State Bar Association’s State and Local Tax (SALT) council for the 2022/2023 ISBA year.
Mr. Heywood’s involvement with the SALT council began back in 2016. At the time he was the Chair of the Chicago Bar Association’s real estate taxation committee and a colleague of his was serving as the Chair of SALT. The IDFPR had begun to prosecute attorneys for alleged unauthorized appraisal practice, and Mr. Heywood worked closely with SALT and the ISBA to successfully address the matter. The subsequent year Mr. Heywood was appointed to the council as an associate editor. Later, Daniel was made a full member of the council and was given the opportunity to serve in leadership on the council. Mr. Heywood served as a legislative liaison, secretary, Vice Chair and just concluded his term as Chair. During his service Daniel helped to amend a section of the Illinois Property Tax Code and offer subject matter testimony before the House Revenue Committee in Springfield.
